The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a major honors show approaches, there’s always an outcry for the addition fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles globally and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
