Jon Ruben admitted 17 charges at the judicial center on Friday

A man who contaminated candy with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males both between nine and ten.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his family member had worries about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She said the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
